Trust & Faith

Instead of New Year’s resolutions, I choose a word of the year and in some cases, I choose additional words throughout the year to shape the year ahead and to give me focus and direction. I started this year with the words “Trust” and “Faith”. Trust has been more of a barrier in life than I care to admit. I have been transitioning from my life in corporate HR for over a year now and after taking some of that time to go inward, I recognized that my lack of trust in myself has prevented me from moving forward in the ways that I have desired for years.
Often we hear we need to “trust our instincts” or “trust that the universe will take care of us”. For me, at times, I have not slowed down enough to hear what my instincts are telling me. Or, I simply have ignored those instincts because of old survival behaviors that I had leaned on to keep me “safe” and keep me “surviving”. In truth, I’ve been in fight or flight mode for so long that I couldn’t even hear or feel my instincts. And, I am really so much better at taking care of everyone else’s needs rather than truly understanding my own. But, I have been given the gift of stepping off the corporate treadmill for now, to see how important trusting yourself and trusting the universe is to your success at work and in life.
As I shared in my bio, I love Wordle. I consider myself a bit of a wordsmith and a lover of the written word, hence the name of my company “Sincerely Yours HR Consulting” (SYHR). At the end of last year, I was stumped by Wordle. And I don’t like to be stumped in Wordle. The word for that day was “faith”. It hit a chord in me. At that moment, I realized my faith had become elusive to me. I believe in a higher power that connects us all. I believe that there is more that we share as humans than that which draws us apart. And I believe that through faith, we create a deeper connection to ourselves allowing a deeper connection to our community.
Trust and faith are often tested throughout the day, the week, the month, the years. They are tested within our personal lives, our professional lives, and in all that we do. However, when we allow ourselves to trust ourselves and others, the pillars of teamwork, leadership, and collaboration can be fulfilled to their highest potential. When we have faith in each other, and in ourselves, we can achieve great things. When we open ourselves up to explore where we have trust and where we have faith, we can discover how these values can either make us stronger or how they can get in our way of how we show up in our daily lives.
These fundamental values show up in so many ways within our relationships at work. How we relate to our work and how we relate to ourselves. They touch on so many other areas of how we behave and how we interact with the world around us. Trusting that this present moment is the most important one we have and that with faith, it will lead us to where we need to be.
